Rick Alesci – Primal Osteopath
Introducing Rick:
Hi there,
My name is Rick Alesci, and I am an Osteopath at Primal Physiotherapy. I completed a double degree in Health Science and Applied Science (Osteopathy) at RMIT University, following my diploma in Remedial Massage at Victoria University.
I have always been passionate about sports, participating in football, soccer, cricket, cross country running, and even local footy and swimming during my school years. Nowadays, the gym is a significant part of my life. When I’m not working out, I enjoy exploring new restaurants (I have an extensive list of places to try!) or binge-watching TV shows and movies like “Peaky Blinders,” “The Office,” “Goodfellas,” and “American Psycho.”
Helping others and providing care has always been a core value of mine. I naturally gravitated towards a profession that allows me to assist people in recovering from injuries and getting back to performing the activities they love. It is incredibly fulfilling to help someone achieve their goals and see them thrive.
I consider my greatest professional achievement to be the significant impact I have made on my patients’ lives. Assisting them in their journey of recovery and helping them achieve their goals is of paramount importance to me. It brings me immense joy to see individuals regain the ability to engage in the activities they enjoy most.
On a personal level, graduating from university stands out as a major achievement. The journey was incredibly challenging at times, especially with the disruptions caused by COVID-19 and various personal circumstances. Continuing my studies during such a testing period was tough, but I am proud that I persevered through the adversity. In my final year, I even managed to overload a semester by taking five units while completing my final practical exams, which were crucial for my graduation. I never imagined I could handle an additional subject while preparing for these pivotal exams, but I did, and it remains a significant personal accomplishment.
I come from a large Italian family that instilled in me a few core beliefs: treating everyone with respect, having confidence in my abilities while maintaining humility, and understanding that valuable lessons can be learned from anyone, regardless of their situation. These values have shaped me into an empathetic and trustworthy practitioner, dedicated to helping my patients achieve their desired outcomes.
My journey into Osteopathy was inspired by my fascination with anatomy and human biomechanics, combined with a passion for helping others. Initially, I completed a Diploma of Remedial Massage, as I lacked the confidence to fully commit to the rigorous demands of university straight out of high school. Looking back, this was one of the best decisions I could have made. During my diploma, I developed effective study habits and excelled in a field that I was growing increasingly passionate about. I completed all my academic requirements a month before the course end date and was one of three students to achieve 100% on all exams, without needing to repeat any course material.
My passion for anatomy, human biomechanics, and health only deepened during my Osteopathic studies. While I was dedicated to my studies, I also enjoyed a balanced social life, including many late nights with friends, sometimes even before practical classes. I believe that balance is essential—having fun and building friendships are among life’s greatest blessings. The right friendships challenge and inspire you to constantly develop.
Throughout my six years of education, I have honed the skills necessary to alleviate your symptoms using various techniques, such as massage, dry needling, joint mobilisation, and cupping, to name a few. I am adept at diagnosing injuries through a combination of subjective and objective tests, allowing me to identify the underlying causes and tailor treatments to your specific goals. Additionally, I will design a personalised rehabilitation program to minimise the risk of recurrence and help you return to a pain-free life!
