HERE’S WHAT YOU’VE MISSED

THE GRAD PROJECT 6

ANTERIOR SHOULDER PAIN

In August, Andrew Lock and Lisa Tran presented “Anterior Shoulder Pain in Bench Pressers – Andrew Lock’s Approach”. In this intimate seminar with the physiotherapy students from the University of Melbourne, we looked at the common problems contributing to anterior shoulder pain in bench pressers. A specific problem needs a specific solution. Watch out for this seminar in 2022!

THE GRAD PROJECT 4

SPORTING KNEE

This one was an absolute blast to present! Lisa, Andrew and Ben looked at patella tendinopathy assessment strategies and rehab protocols which helped to streamline client assessments and direct your rehab program for the future. This online event will be coming again in 2022!

THE GRAD PROJECT 9

DON'T FEAR THE DISC BULGE

We debunked many myths around the disc bulge and looked at effective ways to assess and treat discogenic related back pain. We we lucky to be joined by a real life case study who shared with us her conservative management rehab journey with Lisa for a disc extrusion. This event will be coming around in 2022 but this time, as a face to face seminar!

The grad project advanced lumbar spine

ADVANCED LUMBAR SPINE

This was all about complex lower back presentations. Ben ran us through an interesting case study about tissue loading and how he was able to get a triathlete pain free. Andrew and Lisa worked through the application of clinical theory into a deadlift and how the application of theory is the most important part of lower back rehab. This seminar will return in 2022!

SHOULDER INJURIES & POST OP REHAB

Austin is a renowned shoulder and knee surgeon who has vast international experience. Having studied and trained all around the world, he brings us an immense level of expertise and insight into shoulder injuries.
In this intimate seminar, Austin gave us an insight into shoulder injuries and when to refer to surgeons in particular cases. Ater Austin’s presentation all participants were given the opertunity for a Q & A session with Austin on interesting cases that you may have come across with. This was finished off with a workshop on common post-operation protocols for common shoulder surgeries and how to get the most out of your rehab sessions with your clients in the acute stage.

It is estimated the 1 in 10 may develop plantar fasciitis in their lifetime (Riddle et. al, 2003) - it is important for us to be able to accurately pick up the most common signs and symptoms to help someone get into the right treatment pathway. The foot is a complex joint with many muscle attachments. Being able to accurately direct and tailor your treatment is so important!! Ankle and Foot Tendinopathy 🦶 Here is a little table for you clinicians out there! Foot and ankle tendinopathy is a pretty common occurrence in private practice! We see it quite often and being able to differentiate between all the structures of the foot is important. Specific conditions require specific rehab! Figure out which tendon is affected and ensure to load that tendon appropriately!#physio #physiostudent #dpt #osteo #myo #osteostudent #chiro #university #physiotherapy #uom #degree #doctorofphysiotherapy #physicaltherapy #pt

🔥HOW IMPORTANT IS FOOT POSTURE?Chronic instability of the ankle post lateral sprain is very common and happens in almost 70% of people! (Herzog et.al, 2019). We need to see chronic instability as a cascading diagnoses - think about what other structures can be impacted, how does it change the way we do basic tasks and what impact this has for our movements. A really good example is the development of tibialis posterior tendinopathy. This can cause issues with our feet and is the most common reason for acquired flat foot. Now flat foot isn't a problem - however, it can be! Context is super important! Tomorrow we look at how acquired flat foot can cause us issues in a squat! If it's a problem and has a cause - address it 💯#physio #physiostudent #dpt #osteo #myo #osteostudent #chiro #university #physiotherapy #uom #degree #doctorofphysiotherapy #physicaltherapy #pt

🔥SEVERE ANKLE SPRAINS - SYNDESMOSIS INJURIES🔥Syndesmosis injuries occur in traumatic sports and falls, usually in the OPPOSITE direction of what occurs with a lateral ankle sprain. In common mechanisms, the force comes from the lateral side into the medial side of the ankle (think a slide tackle in soccer). However, you can also get syndesmosis injuries with a severe lateral ankle sprain too! It is extremely important to rule out an ankle fracture in cases like this, so don't forget your Ottawa ankle rules! Syndesmosis injury occurs in about 50% of type Weber B and in all of type Weber C fractures (Hermans et.al, 2010) so both may come hand in hand with each other. There are some common signs (SWIPE RIGHT!) that you should be able to pick up so help direct you to the correct diagnosis (you don't want to miss a syndesmosis injury!)For a stable syndesmosis injury, you can manage this conservatively with a proper rehab program!#physio #physiostudent #dpt #osteo #myo #osteostudent #chiro #university #physiotherapy #uom #degree #doctorofphysiotherapy #physicaltherapy #pt

🔥LATERAL ANKLE SPRAIN MANAGEMENT - ACUTE STAGES🔥Lateral ankle sprains, when managed appropriately, can recover well - and quickly too! As clinicians, we need to ensure that we have clear clinical goals in mind in our first couple of sessions. Once swelling, range of motion and weightbearing status has been restored, you will find it much easier to test strength and other deficits! Have a think about it - if a joint is swollen, we may not be able to get an accurate strength result, so we best manage swelling first!#physio #physiostudent #dpt #osteo #myo #osteostudent #chiro #university #physiotherapy #uom #degree #doctorofphysiotherapy #physicaltherapy #pt

🙋‍♀️ 🙋‍♀️ 🙋‍♀️ HANDS UP IF YOU'VE EVER SPRAINED YOUR ANKLE?! Lateral ankle sprains are one of the most common sports injuries and during the season, we see quite a lot of them! Considering up to 70% of ankle sprain-ers will experience long-term chronic instability, recurrent sprains and persistent symptoms (Herzog et. al, 2019), not enough is being done to help clients go through the whole rehab process. Understanding the grades of sprains can help us to educate our client on how long they expect recovery to be. The main clinical signs we can use to help direct us to the right severity are: - weightbearing status (remember to rule out a fracture!)- bruising/swelling - anterior draw test to test the integrity of the ATFL (ATFL accounts for the majority of ankle sprains)Learn your basics first 💯#physio #physiostudent #dpt #osteo #myo #osteostudent #chiro #university #physiotherapy #uom #degree #doctorofphysiotherapy #physicaltherapy #pt
